Fanny Lou Hamer
The quote that I liked was "I am sick and tired of being sick and tired". This quote means that she was just tired of living the way she did, she didn't have no freedom and lived in a place where there was racism. Fanny was a rural agricultural hard worker who was not going to give up because she didn't see no end to the cycle of poverty and humiliation for most southern African Americans. Sharecropping was one of their biggest issue because even though they were considered free they still had to give a portion of their crops to the whites to replace the seeds and supplies they had purchased on credit. This meant that they were always going to be in debt with the whites. Fanny was tired and sick of being tired and sick of the whites she couldn't live a normal life without the whites threading her.
At first I didn't really understand this quote but after learning from her life it all makes sense and I think she was an amazing woman who didn't give up for her and her people and for us and our children's in the future.

Kite Runner Worlds Alive Part 2
Today was the second part of the class discussion with Worlds Alive on the best book ever The Kite Runner. I liked the discussion because everyone had the chance to talk about the book and everyone had really good points of view. I also tried the burqua on me and it felt like I was trapped but I knew that I was in California and I was able to take it off whenever I wanted it. Also liked how I got to participate in facilitating the book review and it was really good. I didn't like the ending of the discussion because we didn't get to finish an activity that we had plan. I also didn't like the Afghanistan desserts but i appreciated the opportunity of being able to taste them. What I really enjoyed was the tea that Dawn brought for use to taste. (: I loved the book and I want to own it and I'm going to own the movie too.

Which characters change as the story proceeds? Do they change for the better or the worse, and how do they change specifically?
Well the main character that definitely change in the story and for good was Amir. Amir felt so guilty for what he did to Hassan how he treated him and didn't care for his feelings. How he didn't care that Hassan was a really loyal friend to him. Anyway, Amir change in a good way because after Sohrab's parents (Hassan & Farzana) were killed in Kabul, Sohrab was sent to an orphanage and Amir with the help of Rahim Kahn and the taxi driver he rescued Sohrab from Assef , the bully that raped Hassan when they were little, and decided to take him to America with him and his wife.
Who was your favorite character and why? Which character did you dislike most throughout the story and why?
My favorite character now after reading the whole book and watching the movie was Amir, because even though all the drama he put Hassan through he still had love for him. It was really brave of him to go back to Kabul and rescue his nephew. Amir knew what he was going to go through and even though at first he had a doubt of not going he still did and I'm pretty sure he is never going to regret it. The character I most dislike was Assef because he was just a pig, how could he had rapped Hassan and even after he had marked Hassan for the rest of his life he used his son Sohrab as a prostitute and marked him too, ugh I just hate him.
Which is your most favorite scene in the book? In the movie?
My most favorite scene was when Amir and Sohrab are flying the kite and at the end of the movie. Their kite is the only one flying so Amir asked Sohrab, "Do you want me to run that kite for you?" Sohrab nod his head and Amir tell him, "For you, a thousand times over" and he starts running and runs and runs. I loved this part, because those were the exact same words that Hassan told Amir when they won the kite tournament, and before he got rapped by Assef and Amir not helping him. This movie and book were the best I loved it. (:
Which did you enjoy better, the novel or the movie? Please give specific
reasons why.
I enjoy the novel better because in the movie they skip alot of parts that we read in the novel. Also because the book was like so good and it will make me want to come to school everyday and read it. The movie was good but the novel was better.

Precious / Push Questions
1.What type of person do you believe Precious is? Based on the circumstances in her life, what would you expect from Precious? I feel Precious is a really nice girl, she is just really hurt because all the obstacles she had in her life for example her dad raping her and getting pregnant with two babies at a really young age. Her mom also molesting her and treating her like noting like a piece of trash. She getting kicked out of school because of her pregnancy. I would expect Precious to be more aggressive like i don't know she took so much from her mom. I just feel so sad because me as a daughter and a single mother feel that parents should be our role models our heroes. If we need something or if we are hurt we run to our parents ans i just feel this is something Precious never had but she grew up to be a strong mother and be there for both of her kids that's what keeps her going.
2.Can you relate to Precious or her life? In what ways?- The truth I can relate to Precious in so many different ways but there is a huge one that I can't and that in her life is the biggest one that she is most hurt by. Her dad raping her and having two babies by him and her mom molesting her. I have two beautiful babies and I'm a single mom going to school and taking care of my babies. Their daddy passed away last year in May and it has been really hard for me to have the right words when they ask for him. My question is what would Precious tell her babies when they ask for their daddy I mean this is just going to be so hard for her. But I know she can do it and she is Precious is not going to give up and she is going to have a better life just them three.

3.What is the role you play in other people's lives?- Well I know that me as a mother of two babies I should be their role model their hero and now more than ever because I'm their mom and dad at the same time. Also my babies are now going to be three and four and they are in that age were they don't listen and are always doing a mess in the house. And me I know I sometimes get really frustrated and I just take a time out and leave, so my mom will watch them for me.

The Impact of Fundamentalism of Human Rights
Fundamentalist: Someone who follows religious laws very strictly.
Fundamentalism: The practice of following religious laws very strictly.
Fundamentalism: The practice of following religious laws very strictly.
Rules Regarding Female
9. Females found guilty of adultery will be publicly stoned to death- I think this rule is so stupid because if girls are cheating on their husband is because they are not satisfying them and they should leave them. It's funny because now and days most of the girls cheat on their boyfriend or husbands, imagine if we will have this rules here in the united states there wouldn't be many women.
Rules Regarding All Afghan Male And Female
14. Anyone who converts from Islam to any other religion will be executed- I think this rule is so unfair because I know that many Afghan deep down in their heart don't believe in the Afghan religion. I don't know maybe I'm tripping but I'm pretty sure they don't think like every Afghan and they feel like they want some freedom, the right to give out their opinions and convert to whatever religion they want. But no because obviously they will be executed.

The Kite Runner
The Kite Runner is about a boy name Amir he is a Pashtun very rich and intelligent he is also a writer. He is friends with Hassan who is a Hazara, he is poor and doesn't know how to read or write he has a cleft lip and his mom left the dad when he was small .He is the son of Amirs dad's servant Ali. Amir is a boy who grows up with out the love of his dad and the blame of him killing his mom when she gave birth to him. Through out his life he grew up wit Hassan but most of the time he felt jealous of him because his dad always admire Hassan for being brave and never giving up. Later on after Amir won the tournament Hassan gets raped by Assef a bully, also a Pashtun, Amir watched everything and didn't do anything. After, Amir feels really guilty and decides not to talk to Hassan no more. Hassan later tells his dad, Ali, everything that happen that day of the tournament and Ali decides to leave with his son and Baba doesn't understand why. He tried to convince Ali and Hassan to stay but they still leave. Later the Russians come to Afghanistan and Baba and Amir have to leave to America. Life is really hard for them but they still manage to live over there. Amir meets this girl who he falls in love with and is now engage with her.
My favorite character was Hassan, he is the best friend anyone will like to have. He is a lil boy who has a big heart to forgive Amir after everything that happen. Hassan was just an innocent lil boy who all he wanted was for Amir to showed him he cared and one day called him his friend. Amir just makes me so mad, but this book is so good that confuses me because he also had many reasons to act that way and all he wanted was his dads love. And it wasn't his fault that his dad will always act like he was nothing like he wanted him to be like Hassan.
We are still not done wit the book but I hope it has a good ending. (-:

The Supremacy Clause
1.According to Thomas Jefferson, "not a foot of land will be taken from the Indians without their consent". This quote was not kept because the president of the United States, Andrew Jackson was a strong supporter of the Removal Act. Gold has been discovered in the lands. Jackson sent federal troops and forced the removal of the Cherokee's from their homes and lands.
2.The Cherokees became acculturated to the European's culture because after being force to leave their lush huntind and farming lands, they had no option then to follow the whites people rules. They acculturated, built schools, and many became Christians.
3.By 1932 "Indian tribes's had lost ninety million acres of reservation land, that was two-thirds of all the land they had reserved through treaties and other laws". The Dawes Severalty Act had to do much with this loss, beacuse if any land left from the the resrvations it would be taken away and be declared as "surplus land" and could be sold to the whites. Also because many of the Indians land was poor and not good for farming, they were not interested in farming because they did not have the money to start farms or to develop cattle ranches in their lands.
4.Chief Joseph engage in a battle with th U.S army beacuse after his people being move and then remove because they had discovered gold in the land, he just didn't agree with this so he "outsmarted the government soldier's over and over again with his superior military tactics (strategies)." Chief Joseph was forced to surrender after leading the federal troops and a 1,300 mile chase.
5.The Supremacy Clause stated that none of the Indians land would be taken away from them with out their consent, it was not respected and this law was not kept because the whites, and President Andrew Jackson choose to ignore the courts decisions and everything from the Indians was taken away, and they were forced to move.

Obama's Speech: My Education, My Speech
1.It Really touch me when President Obama talked about his life and to him every one is the same we are no different than any other human being in this world. We all have to struggle in life we were not born perfect or intelligent or ready to know everything, we were born to learn to struggle to learn from our many mistakes that we have made in our life's. "You can't let your failures define you, you have to let them teach you", this is so true he just has the perfect words to say to encourage me and other student succeed in life and not quit in our education. Also "Some of the most successful people in the world have struggle the hardest",I really like this phrase because that's what you have to do struggle to be someone important to be proud of your self.
2.One of Obama's most important word was "dedicate" this means that all of us students should commmit to our education commit to our self. Another word was "determine" this word means alot to me because one of Obama's good phrase's was "No one’s written your destiny for you. Here in America, you write your own destiny. You make your own future". This word "succeed" is also a word that should touch every one because that is what we have to do succeed in this life for us, for our kids, and for our country.
3.Yes, he is I just read his speech and it really touch my heart because he made me feel that I can finish school and be proud of my self. The truth is that I've been thinking of quitting school, I feel like I'm never going to be done. It's funny because I passed the CAHSEE test on my first tried now that makes me happy because I know that you have to pass that test in order to graduate, other than that I need not that many credits and my government and economics book as well as my senior portfolio and presentation to finish but is just I get really lazy and don't do it. I really want to get my high school diploma and move on to college and after reading Obama's speech i have decided to NOT quit school and continue wit my high school and and hopefully go to college by next year 2010.
4.It means that I was not born with a good or bad destiny, I was born to make my destiny and not let no one decide my destiny. This phrase means alot to me because this gives me strength to take out the best of me and show every one who thought that because me having a baby at a young age and dropping out of school and to add to that i don't only have one beautiful baby I have two and proud of it, was not going to take no where I'm going to show them that their words don't mean nothing to me I make my destiny how I want it to be it's up to me if I give my kids a good or bad future.
5.I would let him know that by me wanting to be coroner would help in our future our family member who have lost a loved one for any reasons and most of them don't know the cause of it and people just don't give them answers, me as my future my career would loved to help them.

Characterization
Dot will be considered a subordinate character because even though Cupcake had never found a white girl smooth enough to replace her she knew as a hustler she was sooner or later she will find another way.
Cupcake can be considered a dynamic character in this memoir because she has change her way of living and every chapter her attitude and actions continue to be more bad and is getting to a point were something can happen that she will regret later.
Cupcake's dad Mr.Burns can be considered a static character because through out the memoir we have learn that he only calls her when she gets her money which means he needs money from her.

Cupcake's newest conflict
Cupcake is now living with her dad and they are both slanging drugs. Sam the dad's girlfriend who is also a prostitute just moved in with them. The house they are living in is just a mess nothing but drug dealing and prostitutes everywhere. I think Cupcake should get out of this house before its to late and she could become a prostitute or something worse can happen such as some one getting killed or even her self.

Sex Class- STD's
1.Std's are asymptomatic because it shows no signs of the infection.
2.There are four resons teens are at a higher risk of catching std's. Being sexually active, having more than one partner, having a sexual partner who has had multiple sexual partners, and using alcohol or drugs.
3.I think is a higher risk on teenagers because once you go in to puberty alot of teens want to start having sex without alot of different boys or girls.
4.Females have a higher risk of getting infected because they have a larger opening area than males do. Also because once the std in in our body it absorbs the infection like a sponge. Females also receive a larger volume of infected body fluid than males do. Cells of the cervix for tennage females are more at risk of catching the infection.
5.Using condoms, getting tested regularly, getting tested together, and stay with one partnerat a time.

''Oficial Laws Against Women in Iran"
I think the most repressive law in Iran is "Iranian women are not free to choose or control various aspects of their lives." Article 300 of the Penal Code. Women are not allowed to do anything without their husbands permission. Most of the laws in Iran are against women. If this laws were instituted in the United States it will be a big change for all of us girls and women's. It will be really hard for us to adjust to a new change of life. First of all it will be really hard for me to know that I am being control by a man and ask for permission all times. I hope nothing like this will ever happen in the U.S I really don't know what my life and my families will be like.

Lampreys Fishes
Lampreys are jawless fishes.
1.What areas they live?Sea Lamprey are found throughout the Great Lakes and clear, cold streams in the region(between Lake Ontario and Lake Erie).
2.What do they eat? How they eat?lampreys eat small critter like worms and organisms.Lamprey use their disc-shaped mouth, full of teeth, to bit onto fish. They make holes in the sides of their victims and feed on blood and body fluids. They can stay attached for hours, days, or even weeks on one fish. Large fish will most likely survive a lamprey attack with just a circular scar left on the fish's side. Small fish may die immediately from the attack or will die from an infection from the lamprey attach.
3.How they breathe? Fish are generally scaled and respire by passing water over gills.
4.How they reproduce? Lampreys begin life as burrowing, freshwater larvae (ammocoetes). At this stage, they are toothless, have rudimentary eyes, and feed on microorganisms. After several years, they transform into adults and typically move into the sea to begin a parasitic life, attaching to a fish by their mouths and feeding on the blood and tissues of the host. To reproduce, lampreys return to freshwater, build a nest, then spawn (lay their eggs) and die.

YES on PROP 4
Minor(under 18 girl)must get permission before getting an abortion.
I think yes because if something bad happens to the daughter the parents are the only responsible ones for them. Parents should be knowing whats happening to their daughters and maybe they could help them decide whats best for them. Their are alot of ways to protect yourself from getting pregnant.

Life in Ancient Egypt-Holidays and Festivals
1. In the village of Deir el-Medina the craftmen who lived there worked eight days out of every week of ten days.
2. Hunters scare birds by throwing sticks. Hunting birds was a popular sport in rich Egyptians.
3. The Horus as a child-he could also be shown as a child standing on a crocodile and surrounded by snakes, scorpions, and other dangerous animals.
4. Festivals were held to honour the gods. Only priests were allowed to go inside temples at festivals times.
5. Priests used a special calender based on the phases of the moon to work out when festivals should be held. After they followed the farmer's year, with celebrations to mark the ploughing and sowing of the fields later gathering of their crops.
My life is kind of similar because us as mexican we celebrate our own culture belifs some that other people dont celebrate. We do our own different mexican style food and decorate our house with mexican stuff.

My Life As A Taino
In October 11, 1492 three ships arrived to our land the caribbean island called Guanahani. This spanish people immediately claimed this their propety and renamed it San Salvador. They thought we were indians because they they thought they had landed in India. The spanish people took control of us knowing we didn't have no weapons or nothing to defend ourselves against them, we then became their captivos. We were put to work all day but only one time we had a victory La Navidad all spanish were killed but then we got capture again and put enslaved. We tried to rebel but the spanish responded us with brutal forces:they attacked my people, let them be eaten by dogs, burned alive, killed babies against rocks, slaughter . Hatuey an Taino leader who escaped the spanish capture and led a revolt against spanish in Cuba. He was killed but to all of us he is our hero. For two years the spanish suffered starvation they refused to eat our food and our great weather was too humid and hot for them. Later on the spanish created the ecomiendas system each spanish colonist was given a land grant, they could used use and do whatever thay wanted to us. They put us to work and made us suffer of starvation. In 1510 a roman catholic priest organized to protest the injustices of the spanish against us. Fray Antonio de Montesinos was the leader for this march.Montesinos said that they couldn't called themselves christians if they were treating humans like this. Las Casas owned an encomienda with native workers. Montesinos then convince him about the wrong things he was doing and gave away his encomiendas. He was then called "Protector of the Indians." Because the spanish had killed most of my people they started bringing slaves from Africa into the caribbean. Soon after that they started dying because the spanish were working them to death. They started bringing sugar from Africa and then grew it in the caribbean. As sugar became increasingly properous they then realized they needed more of my people to send them to the others caribbeans. Enslaved africans faced horrible conditions:they made them starve to death, worked to death, branded as property, taken away from their family, treated worse than animals, hanged for punishment, chained together for months below deck with rats. By the mid's 1500's there were more africans on other islands than spanish people. As you could see this is my horrible life as a Taino but I'm going to keep on trying to change everything for all my people that were killed by spanish.

Palenque in Mexico a Mayan Empire like no other. In 1944 archeologist discover two tumbs one of a man called King Pacal 2 and right next to it another one of a women buried in red powder. They decided to call her the The Red Queen. They might think it was a woman named Yol Ik Nal the first woman hat ruled Palenque. It could also be Sak Kuk this women will be King Pacal 2 mother. Or it could also be Tzabu Ajaw this womwn would be King Pacal 2 wife. Yol Ik Nal died in A.D 604. They think The Red Queen could had been buried in A.D 700. They think The Red Queen could be someone else. Sak Kuk born in A.D 612 died in A.D 640. In 612 Sak Kuk gave the rule of Palenque to King Pacal 2 her 12 year old son. Archeologist are trying to discover if The Red Queen is related to King Pacal 2 maybe it could be his mother. Tzabe Ajaw was born in 626 A.D died 672 A.D. They discover that The Red Queen was not from Palenque. In A.D 635 King Pacal 2 married Tzabu Ajaw nine years after her marriage she gave birth to her first son nine years after her first son she gave birth to her second child. They both ruled Palenque. They think The Red Queen lived between A.D 615 AND A.D 680. They found by DNA that The Red Queen is not related to King Pacal 2 so that eliminates Sak Kuk mom of King Pacal 2. The only one left is Tzabu Ajaw archeologist found out that the named for The Red Queen was Tzabu Ajaw.

Bonampak is close to Palenque, and tour operators offer the opportunity for people to travel from Palenque to Bonampak and nearby Yaxchilan.Bonampak means "painted walls",is a Classic Period Maya site, located in the modern state of Chiapas, along the Usumacinta river. It is most notable for the magnificent murals discovered. (A.D. 580 to 800).This site has been hidden away in the jungle for longer than most: not until the mid 1940s did some American explorers discover the place but Bonampak was really rediscovered in 1946.
The Temple of the Murals is a long narrow building with 3 rooms atop a low-stepped pyramid base. The interior walls preserve the finest examples of classic Maya painting

Hillary Clinton
The first reason I'm voting for Hillary Clinton is because she is putting alot of effort to strengthening the middle class, by lowering taxes for all middle class families. Providing affordable health care to every American.
My second reason is that she is encouraged to end war in Iraq. She wants to start bringing home America's troops. If president Bush does not end the war now, when Hillary Clinton is president she will.
The third reason increasing access to high-quality early education and helping to create Early Head Start. Protecting children against violence and sexual content on children's cognitive, social, and physical development.
My fourth reason is that if we vote for Hillary she will efficient economy and create as many as five million new jobs.
My fifth and last reason I'm voting for Clinton is because she is really trying to help every American in the united states. She will provide Nurse home visitation programs to help new parents develop parenting skills. Child care and Head Start. Pre-kindergarten for all four-year olds.

In Mexico, Christmas is an important holiday season with strong traditions. One of the most colorful traditions is the posada party, celebration every evening from December 16 to 24. These celebrations commeraate Mary and Joseph;s. cold and difficult journey from Nazareth to Bethlehem in search of shelter. "posada" in spanish, simply means lodging or shelter. Nowdays, the posada has envolved into a Religious and social celebration, paying a festive homage to the journey.
